Before taking Propecia, be sure to consult with your healthcare advisor in case you have ever had an allergic reaction to this drug, or to a similar medicine called dutasteride (Avodart). Also consult your doctor on the following conditions:

* liver disease, or abnormal liver enzyme tests;
* prostate cancer;
* a bladder muscle disorder;
* stricture of your urethra;
* inability to urinate.

Propecia should never be consume and even handled by women or children. Finasteride (the active element of Propecia) can be absorbed through the skin, so keep children and women away from Propecia tablets. Propecia can cause birth defects or abnormalities in the fetus if a pregnant woman has been exposed to its active element. That’s why Propecia tablets are coated to prevent contact with the active ingredient during normal handling. In case a woman accidentally comes in contact with this drug from a broken or crushed tablet, wash the area with soap and water immediately.
